Some people enter eternity without saying anything, while others utter sentiments that disclose their values, priorities, inner most thoughts, and sometimes, regrets. A person’s last words are important and are rarely forgotten.  We hang on the dying words of those closest to us. We pass on the final words of great leaders to the next generation. The great Baptist preacher, Charles Spurgeon said as his last words, “Jesus died for me.” and John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, said; “The best of all is, God is with us.” Contrast these words of faith with the final words of some other notable people in history: Theodore Roosevelt said; “Put out the light.” Playwright, Oscar Wild exclaimed; “Either that wallpaper goes, or I do.” And before slipping into a coma, Winston Churchill proclaimed; “I’m bored with it all!”

During the last 6 hours of His life, hanging between heaven and earth, Jesus uttered 7 powerful statements that not only reveal His heart, but also give us a glimpse into the depth of His suffering for our redemption. This series will look at Jesus’ 7 last words from the Cross–how each statement carries the weight of the Gospel in itself, and together provide not only a picture of God’s eternal plan of salvation, but all of the benefits of Christ’s passion that we have received.
