Letters to the 7 Churches

In the beginning of the Book of Revelation, John writes; “It was the Lord’s Day, and I was worshipping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard a loud voice behind me, a voice that sounded like a trumpet blast. It said; ‘Write down what you see, and send it to the seven churches…’ (Rev. 1:10).” As the revelation unfolds, John describes the Lord Jesus walking among 7 golden candlesticks. These candlesticks represent the 7 churches in Asia Minor–those who have been entrusted with proclaiming the light of the Gospel. Although Jesus is speaking to the 7 churches of John’s day, He’s also speaking to the Church throughout history, because His Word is timeless and eternal; and still speaks the same lessons; carries the same warnings; and offers the same promises if we have ears to hear and understand what He is saying. The number 7 is the Hebrew number of completion–this means that every condition of the church; along with the spiritual condition of the heart of every believer; and the relationship that we have with Jesus at any given point in time, can be found somewhere in these 7 messages.

This 7 week series will look at Jesus’ letters to the 7 churches–the good things they did to bless Jesus and the praise they received; the areas where they were in error or grieved the Lord; and Jesus’ warning to them. If Jesus were to write a letter to Living Waters would He say?

“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” (Revelation 2:7)
